The Mystery Box

Artwork made for JJ Abrams 'Bad Robot' show in LA.

Made this piece for Gallery 1988's 'Bad Robot Art Experience' art show in April 2013.

The group show celebrated Bad Robot Productions back and future catalogue.

I found It really very difficult to narrow it down to just once film or TV show so i had to include all the things i really like about Bad Robot and JJ Abrams.

One of my all time favourite Bad Robot experiences was the hype built up with the nameless trailer to the film which became Cloverfield. Seeing the inspirational nod to the Escape From New York poster, seeing the Statue of Liberties decapitated head rolling up a Manhattan Street

was so memorable.

'I housed this diorama in a 'Tannen's MagicMystery Box' which JJ Abrams spoke of during his TED Talk.

On an artificial cardboard New York street Mr Abrams looks on from the door of his shop seeing the clean up of the Cloverfield aftermath.

Each character is a personal nod to Bad Robot and JJ Abrams. Dustin Hoffman as 'Tootsie" one of Abrams favourite movies. The kid from Super 8 film films the raising of vandalised Liberty head. A very happy and nostalgic  Planet of the Apes ape enjoys his day out. Ron Sterling, a hero of Abrams records one of his Twilight Stories. Spock finds an interesting specimen under the transporting lamp light. Locke looks a little annoyed and lost.

A confused Bryan Burke wonders what to do next after chatting with Dustin Hoffman. Snake still tries to escape New York. Freddie pops out of his basement, one of Abrams favourite horror movies. Who better to take the broom and do an award winning clean up than Steve, the dark horse street cleaner.
