The Beatyard Yeti

To advertise Bodytonics 'Beatyard Festival 2014' I was commissioned to create a window display in Tower Records on Dawson Street, Dublin. I wanted to take a more non traditional approach. Having spent some time outside the shop one day watching customers come and go, I noticed that none of them paid any attention to what was in the windows. The shop front and interior of the shop is black and dark. My first thought was that what ever I was going make it was going to be white and unusual. That week I was really into Yeti's...again. It got me thinking, do Yeti's like music? Do they like Festivals? Do they travel or go on holidays? I bet they are terrible at holidaying and get it wrong all the time. I wonder if anyone would notice a Yeti in Tower Records? So I asked John if I could build a camp in the window. The pitch went a little like this;

"I guess some explanation might be needed to why the Abominable Snowman is camped out in Tower Records window. Well its around this time of year that most Yeti's and Sasquatch's come out of hiding to catch their favourite festival. Big Daddy Kane and Jazzy Jeff are big favourites of the Yeti. DJ EZ and Flight Facilities are more Big Foots vibe and ironically the Lock Ness Monster loves Darklight. All in all most of the worlds mysterious creatures love the Beatyard Festival.

 Did you know that Yeti's have a pretty bad sense of geography once they step a few feet away from the Himalayas. It was lucky that  Tower Records came to the rescue of this rambling beast. They welcomed another mythical legend into their home and gave him a place to pitch his tent for the week. By day you would find him getting to know his  surroundings but by night he escapes to the Dublin streets following the Beatyard sound trail. As elusive as you like, the party monsters are taking their holidays from the 24th April to the 4th of May 2014 and haunting our city."

So I made a Yeti costume, an old canvas medic tent, a camp fire and a host of props. To keep me company while I camped in the window I invited a little snowman actor friend of mine to join me. Seamus LaBeouf flew in from LA to hang for the weekend. What a guy. We just people watched and they watched us back. We played music and enjoyed our surroundings . Word travelled fast " Did you see that Yeti in Tower Records? " At night you would see the fire alight and us retired for the night.
