My Name Is Emily

Director and writer Simon Fitzmaurice came to myself and oscar winning graphis designer Annie Atkins to see if we would team up to create the movie poster for his 2015 feature film, My Name Is Emily.
After a few sit down scribble meetings, Annie and I decided that we would love if the poster was a illutrated journey. The film is a road trip of discovery and we wanted our poster to be the map. Annie had seen my woodcuts and asked if it was possible to make each element and layer it. I couldn't say no.
2 weeks later and each piece was hand cut using a scroll saw and every little bit hand painted. None of them were stuck down so each piece was disessemled and ressembled in Annies studio to be photographed.
The film distributor liked the poster but wanted changes made that went against the original design of the poster. We wanted arthouse and they wants generic. The poster was only used in the end for promotion and never made the final cut.
The experience and challenge was enough for me and to work with such an incredible talent like annie.
It was our Loat In La Mancha poster and thats alright
with me.
